Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Somerville Board of Aldermen, and Chief Information Officer Karthik Viswanathan announced today that the City has initiated a contract with Long Island-based meeting-management software designer IQM2 to incorporate streaming online video (live and on-demand) and agenda and minute tracking tools for the Board of Aldermen’s bi-monthly meetings. The software will be rolled out during the month of April. The tools will allow internal users and the general public easier access to specific agenda items and meeting results, while utilizing an interactive video and meeting minutes tracking system.

“Somerville has been at the forefront of innovative technology, often commended for our award-winning website and our Connect-CTY mass notification system. The IQM2 software suite will further serve our goal of increased access and transparency in city government,” Mayor Curtatone said. “This software not only eases the workload for City departments, but also provides community members with the opportunity to research Aldermanic issues easily and independently. In the future, we hope to be able to extend this tool to other City meetings and events.”

“I’ve already had the opportunity to work with this software, and I’m eager to integrate the system into our regular meetings over the next few months,” said Board of Alderman President Jack Connolly. “It’s wonderful that Somerville continues to be on the leading edge of both technology and good government practices, and I’m proud to be a member of the Board, and a resident of this forward-thinking City.”

“Currently, preparing for Board meetings typically requires a large number of paper submissions from City departments,” said City Clerk John Long. “IQM2’s end-to-end single streamlined application will allow us to automate the entire public meeting workflow process and then deliver the end result to the public via video. For the community at large, this new system will also create quicker and easier searches for information and issues discussed during the meetings.”

“We are delighted to have been selected to serve the City of Somerville. Being selected to serve an All-American City Award recipient and a most forward thinking municipality such as Somerville is both an honor and a compliment. From the very first day that Mayor Curtatone invited us in we have been most impressed with the Administration’s professionalism, due diligence in evaluating our services, desire to improve efficiencies, and enhance open government for the citizens of Somerville. We thank the City for their trust in us,” Said Daryl Blowes, CEO of IQM2, Inc.
