Access critical component of open data initiatives

June 24, 2013

A key aspect of open and transparent government is ensuring that the public has unfettered access to data, and with the power of the internet, there's no better way to accomplish that than by using an online data portal. The city of Brandon, Manitoba, recently implemented its own open data portal to provide citizens with access to property and tax data, information on city events and more.

"We want to make access to information open and easy. Our Open Data initiative is one step in increasing this ability,"  Mayor Shari Decter Hirst said. "Open Government is about being transparent and accessible, and that is what we are continually working towards."

With its new portal, the city is able to provide communities with essential information, including city council meeting minutes and agendas, as well as announcements regarding city-wide events such as parades and celebrations.

By investing in high-quality meeting management services from IQM2, any city, state or local government can embrace transparency and ensure that it is providing its citizens with access to data that is easy to find and use. IQM2's meeting management software is convenient and helps offices improve operations across the board.
