Don’t Lose Your Brand (Or Why Not YouTube)

YouTube has proven to be an invaluable resource for videos of every topic, quality, and length, providing users of every shape and size with unlimited space to store media and make it available for users across multiple platforms. More than one billion unique users visit YouTube every month, and over six billion hours of video are watch each month on YouTube.

And video is important. According to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, one minute of video is worth 1.8 million words. The average internet user is exposed to 32.2 videos per month, and 100 million users watch online video each day.

So you want to put your videos online, now what? At first glance YouTube can seem to be an attractive option for hosting meeting videos. After all, it’s free and the site is incredibly popular. However, after some consideration, most governments realize that the limitations of YouTube outweigh the benefits. One of the main detriments is that you lose control of your brand. Your government meetings will bear the YouTube logo, be surrounded by ads and even other “related” videos over which you have no control.
