The Ketchum City Council unanimously approved a pair of proposals to conduct live-streaming and on-demand audio and video streaming of its meetings.

Intelligent Meeting Management (IQM2) submitted the platform proposal, while Maestro Technologies sent a proposal for a sound-system upgrade and the system to operate the live-streaming platform.

“This is an important way to keep our community informed,” Councilman Baird Gourlay said. “I know there are people who would like to keep up with what’s going on here from the comfort of their own home, so this will allow them to do that.”

Mayor Nina Jonas quipped that she would like to see makeup added to the proposal’s budget in order to look better on screen. She agreed that live-streaming will help more people stay informed, while adding that she would still like to see more people attend council meetings.

According to a staff report from Ketchum Special Projects Manager Lisa Enourato, the total cost to start the full project is $29,830. Maestro Technologies will charge $4,600 for the server and $7,188 in annual fees. IQM2 will provide the city with a server for the platform free of charge, while the city will have to pay the company $4,116 each year.

“The proposals received for the upgrade to the sound system were similar in cost,” Enourato said in the report. “The current system in council chambers was installed, and continues to be serviced, by Maestro Technologies.”

Maestro Technologies’ proposal states that wired microphones will be installed for the council and the staff tables in the standard configuration for public council meetings. The wiring will run under the tables with a cable management system built to hide the wiring.

The city expects to have the system operational in May.
